Eagles' long-shot Dallas Goedert replacement dream dashed too soon

At one point, the Philadelphia Eagles fan base thought maybe they could be in the running for one of the top free agents in the offseason, but before it can even start, that's no longer the case.

The Atlanta Falcons are going to use the franchise tag on tight end Kyle Pitts and avoid free agency. Pitts and the Falcons are hoping to secure a long-term contract before the season begins.

Last season, Pitts had the second-best year of his career with 928 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. Pitts grew up in Pennsylvania, which was part of the reason many were starting to connect him with the Eagles as a possibility this offseason.
