One hundred fifty years ago, on Feb. 2, 1876, in a presumably smoke-filled room at the Grand Central Hotel in New York, the National League was born.
William Hulbert, an officer for the Chicago White Stockings, met with representatives from other teams and formed what was officially titled the National League of Professional Baseball Clubs.
