Middlesbrough's England Under-20 international Law McCabe is to return to the Championship club after having his loan at Plymouth Argyle cut short.
The 19-year-old signed a season-long deal with the League One side on transfer deadline day in September.
But he has struggled to break into a Pilgrims side that has been battling at the wrong end of the table.
McCabe has made just 13 appearances in all competitions and last started a game on 29 November.
"I think Law will have learned a lot," Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley said after the 3-0 win over Burton Albion.
