Red Wings will be without Simon Edvinsson through the Olympic break

It looks like the Red Wings and Simon Edvinsson are planning to keep things safe instead of ending up in a sorry state later. The towering 6’6” Swedish defenseman’s status was updated over the weekend, with Coach Todd McLellan revealing that Edvinsson will be out of action for the Red Wings until after the Olympic Break.

Edvinsson, in his second full season in the NHL, was injured in the Red Wings Jan. 21 matchup with the Maple Leafs, though he would end up completing the game. However, in the team’s next matchup against the Minnesota Wild the big swede was a surprise late scratch for Detroit after apparently tweaking the injury in warmups.
