Pier, 10 others look for state glory

YORKTOWN — For the past four years, Yorktown wrestler Joey Pier has watched teammates advance to the state finals.

But he was never able to be a participant. Now, as a senior, he'll be wrestling in the first round of the IHSAA state wrestling championship on Friday, trying to extend his season one more day. The state finals are Friday and Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

"It's always going to make you nervous, going to Bankers Life on Friday night, knowing that everyone there is good," Pier said. "Knowing this could be the last match of my career is pretty motivational.
