MUNCIE, Ind. — Zero-for-three might not sound too bad for most shooters.
That's just a slow start for a Ryan Weber, Francis Kiapway or Sean Sellers. But for true freshman Kyle Mallers, who has already learned how to play at small forward and power forward, that 0-for-3 statline was stretched out over Ball State's first seven Mid-American Conference games.
He played between two and seven minutes in each of those contests for an average of 10 minutes per. Over that timeline, zero field goals starts to feel a little heavier.
"It's really hard to play in the role that he's been in," head coach James Whitford said after a recent loss to Ohio.
