MUNCIE, Ind. — Ball State opened its home slate with a 51-31 thrashing of UAB. The Cardinals held a narrow lead in the third quarter and struggled at times, but ultimately got up by 27 in the fourth quarter to win their first game of the year.

Before Ball State hosts Tennessee Tech next Saturday, here are five takeaways:
