MUNCIE, Ind. — It was a little too close for comfort, but Ball State pulled out a 79-77 win against Coppin State in its third of four games during the Men Who Speak Up Main Event.

The Cardinals (2-2) were ranked more than 200 spots higher than the Golden Eagles by Ken Pomeroy before the Monday matchup. Ball State is bigger than Coppin State (0-6), generally shoots better and had been much stingier on defense. On paper, this game had the makings of a landslide win for head coach James Whitford and Co.

"I wish we would have won by more," Whitford said.
